Chef Chudaree “Tam” Debhakam’s has gone from pioneer, to innovator, to the city’s Thai food ambassador. With a zealous approach to sustainability and zero waste and produce made in the venue’s back yard, Chef Tam has created both a menu that evokes a unique but traditional and gathered together a genuine community that makes this city better.
Boasting two Michelin stars and a Green Star for her work, the young chef’s meteoric rise has been nothing short of inspiring. In the six years since Baan Tepa opened, Chef Tam has garnered the Young Chef Award from Michelin 2023, Asia’s Best Female Chef by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2025, and was the Top Tables 2024 pick for the best restaurant in the city.
Chef Tam began at the University of Nottingham, training at the International Culinary Center in New York, and today, she runs the city’s best Thai food restaurant, a place that acts as an embassy for Thai cuisine. What started as a humble 12-seat chef’s table in a previously abandoned ancestral house is now a sprawling urban farm, cafe, and elite fine-dining restaurant.
What really makes Chef Tam special is how she and the crew at Baan Tepa move Bangkok to a greener, more sustainable food scene. The annual Baan Tepa Garden Market, held recently in January, is a way for the entire scene to get together, learn, and grow (sometimes literally).
